Manage Your Server from Your Smartphone

Avocent Corporation Unveils New Products to Enable Management of Servers from Smartphones

Avocent Corporation has introduced two new products that will enable remote management of servers through mobile devices such as smartphones, complementing the company's full suite of remote IT management solutions. Immediately available, software-based SonicAdmin QR and SonicAdmin PRO are focused on Microsoft Windows-based servers and enable IT administrators to remotely manage any server on a network. Product pricing begins at less than $100 per user for annual renewable licenses.

"When IT administrators can't get to an office or a computer terminal to access the network, they can instantly respond to nearly any issue via their mobile devices," said Dave Perry, Executive Vice President, Avocent Corp. "Our new SonicAdmin products are affordable, easy to use and are part of Avocent's overall strategy to deliver solutions that improve remote access and control of IT systems."

SonicAdmin PRO and QR install on any Windows server and can be run from a BlackBerry or any Windows Mobile 5-based device. Annual renewable licenses for SonicAdmin QR are $99 per user and SonicAdmin PRO retails for $399 per user.

Using SonicAdmin QR software, system administrators can access any server allowed by their Active Directory profile to view server statistics, shutdown and reboot servers, view event logs, view and manage processes, manage Active Directory user accounts, and run Quick Commands such as ping, ipconfig and traceroute.

SonicAdmin Pro software offers additional functionality, adding Windows services management, file explorer, file search, file and folder properties, file editor and a Command line interface. The Exchange Server management extensions include viewing queue properties as well as freeze and unfreeze queues and force connection commands. Active Directory management adds user group management and mailbox properties.

Market research indicates that there are more than 40 million Windows-based servers deployed in networks and approximately 3 million Windows IT administrators. "We believe the functionality, price and ease of use make SonicAdmin ideally suited to a wide audience of IT administrators, further extending their remote management capabilities," said Kyle Peterson, Director of Product Marketing, Avocent Mobile Technologies. "Mobile server management is now a mainstream technology that can be broadly deployed across an enterprise."

Software for both products is immediately available for download at http://mobile.avocent.com.

Avocent's complete remote solution allows simplified access and control through a single software interface connecting to KVM over IP switches, console management appliances, power distribution units, and service processor managers for managing complex IT environments.
