Play Media Files in Every Room

Sound interesting? You bet it does and it is easy too!

Download Windows Media Connect 2.0 and you can use a digital media receiver to bring music, photos, and movies stored on your Windows XP-based computer to your stereo and TV.

Windows Media Connect is the easiest way to deliver music, photos, and video from your Windows XP computer to your stereo and television.

Installing Windows Media Connect enables you to deliver music, photos, and videos that reside on your Windows XP PC to devices that support the UPnP protocol. This includes digital audio receivers, connected DVD players, set-top boxes and more. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer.

You can download Windows Media Connect 2.0 here.

OK, so it all sounds pretty cool but you don't have a clue as to what devices that support the UPnP protocol means.

If that is the case, then this might help you. Tom Fout published an article on MicrosoftTechNet on "Universal Plug and Play in Windows XP". It is several years old but gives you an excellent understanding.

Topics covered are:
Introduction
UPNP Enabled Scenarios
Components of a UPnP Network
UPnP Protocol Overview
How UPNP Works
Acronyms
Summary
