Eurotech Unveils Wrist Wearable PC With GPS

Eurotech unveiled the soon to be released WWPC, a revolutionary wrist-wearable device suitable for an extremely wide range of applications that solidifies the concept of ubiquitous computing.

The WWPC has integrated all the power and capabilities of a full size PC inside an extremely versatile device, small enough to be worn like a watch. With it information can be shared and services can be accessed anywhere. It can be quickly configured to access any remote host system through a wired or wireless interface and features fully integrated GPS, Bluetooth, Fast Infrared and WLAN, supporting the Linux and WinCE operating systems.

The WWPC integrates unique and innovative features such as a tilt and dead reckoning system that can be used to detect if the operator has been motionless for a specified amount of time and under these circumstances a location beacon can be transmitted. The WWPC also integrates a newly patented Eurotech system that detects the position of the user’s arm and puts the WWPC into stand-by mode when the arm is hanging down beside the body.

The low-power configuration of the system and Li-ion power cell technology maximizes system uptime, this is guaranteed for more than 8 hours.

The high wearability of the design allows for flexible ergonomic positioning and easy fastening to the arm (even over work clothes), assuring ideal weight distribution and maximum comfort. Several user interfaces are readily available. Integrated features include: GPS, Mini SD memory slot, advance power management, audio mini speakers, video with a bright outdoor-readable 65K color TFT touch screen display, a direct-access keypad, USB host, USB device, headphone jack, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi 802.11g and IRDA.

The target application areas include: Emergency rescue, Security, Defense, Healthcare, Maintenance, Logistics to name but a few. All these applications greatly benefit from the powerful low-power CPU core architecture and wireless communication and localization systems.
