Name That Tune

You hear a song, you love it, you want it but you don't know the name of the song or the artist...........NOT A PROBLEM!

Pick up your cell...dial a number...hold your phone to the music and SHAZAM, the phone will hang up after 30 seconds and you get a text message telling you the artist name & song title! Cool, huh?

After Shazam identifies the track using a process based on unique "fingerprints" and immediately sends the you an SMS with the name of the artist and song title, you can then choose to buy associated products (ringtones, full track music, wallpapers etc), find out more about the track or artist on the WAP portal, or simply store the text message for future reference.

Shazam's music recognition service is already live in 19 territories including:
US, Japan, Germany, Australia, Switzerland, Austria, Greece, Italy, Singapore, Portugal, Taiwan, Turkey, Canada, Switzerland, Thailand, and South Africa.

You can visit SHAZAM here to find out more information.

So why did I mention this cool music service? I saw a news release today from SDC where Secure Digital Container AG (SDC) and its sister company Digital World Services (DWS) announced the commercial launch for an innovative mobile music service with TELUS, a leading Canadian telecommunications company. The companies are providing the digital rights management (DRM) solution and content delivery platform for this new service.

Part of the release mentioned SDC's proprietary Tune Tracker software, which is linked to the world leading music recognition service SHAZAM where clients can quickly identify their favorite songs by holding their wireless phone close to a stereo speaker. The SDC music player instantly recognizes the song and offers a direct link to purchase the music track. This innovative combination of music recognition and mobile download is providing a new search mechanism for shopping purposes and an excellent user experience.

Pretty cool stuff!
