Socket Communications Launches SDIO Scan Card 3M, Class 1 Laser

If you’re a mobile professional using a Palm PDA or Pocket PC with an SDIO slot for an application requiring extensive data entry, the Secure Digital Scan Card (SDSC) 3M offers a convenient solution for entering bar code data into mobile computers quickly, easily and accurately.

World’s Lightest and Smallest Laser Bar Code Scanner Meets Customer Demand for High-Volume and High Performance Scanning

Socket Communications, Inc. announced the Secure Digital Scan Card 3M (SDSC 3M). Designed for Pocket PCs or other mobile devices running Windows Mobile or Palm software, the SDSC provides the ideal solution for users with 1D bar code scanning applications that require a portable, powerful, easy-to-use and accurate method to collect bar coded data.

“Gartner research recently found that the mobile workforce ranks among the top three priorities for chief information officers in 2006,” said Vanessa Lindsay, product marketing manager at Socket Communications. “Today, companies are gravitating towards bar code scanning technology to automate data collection, reduce errors and maximize efficiency. With the SDSC 3M, scanning data is 50 times faster and 10,000 times more accurate than manual data entry.”

The SDSC 3M features a best-in-class SE-955 Class 1 Laser Scanner in the SDIO form factor and is the ideal solution for users with 1D bar code scanning applications that require a portable and accurate method to collect bar code data. Half the weight and size of its competitors, the SDSC 3M allows for one-handed operation and can scan up to 30 inches depending on the bar code size.

“The Secure Digital Scan Card 3M is a high-power, plug and play scanning solution that works right out of the box,” said Doug Booth, Director of Technical Operations at Mosaic Sales Solutions, the largest field sales and marketing company in North America. “The solution is easy and robust, and allows our mobile workforce to quickly and accurately collect data. With the Socket SDSC 3M, we have experienced a great reduction in reporting time, which translates to significant savings of time and resources.”

The SDSC 3M includes SocketScan™, the keyboard emulation software that directs scanned data into any Windows Mobile or Palm application as virtual keystrokes. A Software Developers Kit is available separately for developers who wish to embed control of the SDSC 3M into their applications.
