At Five Times the Performance of Closest Competitor, New ASUS A6T Laptop Powered by Airgo Gen3 True MIMO Chips and AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile Technology Will Set New Laptop Performance Bar.
To meet growing performance and mobility demands, Airgo Networks, Inc. and ASUS today announced development of the ASUS A6T, the first laptop to have the embedded capability of achieving 240 Mbps Wi-Fi performance. The adoption of True MIMO Gen3 technology by ASUS signals that Airgo's technology is being adopted by the PC OEM market at a time when True MIMO market share is increasing rapidly in the consumer and SOHO retail market. Built around AMD's Turion 64 X2 mobile technology multi-core processor and Airgo's Gen3 True MIMO chipsets, the ASUS A6T, is one of the only wireless laptop solutions capable of providing users faster-than-Ethernet networking speeds, clearly surpassing the performance of Centrino-based solutions.
The ASUS A6T Laptop is ideally suited for the mobile user to run any enterprise applications — especially the rapid transfer of large files — on the road or in the office. For the 'road warrior,' it greatly extends the reach and performance of public Wi-Fi hotspots. The ASUS A6T is also a great platform for streaming high definition video and real time support for VoIP, music and gaming.
By integrating Airgo's True MIMO technology directly into the A6T series laptops, ASUS has leaped three generations ahead of its competitors in terms of wireless performance, reliability and range," said David Borison, Director of Marketing for Airgo. "A strong, reliable wireless connection is critical for consumers as mobility and high bandwidth applications become central to the computing experience. Airgo is proud to be an integral part of the fastest laptop on the market today."
"For our first branded entry in the US laptop marketplace, we wanted to create a product that excels not just at traditional data centric chores but also offers new and exciting benefits such as complete wireless freedom while maintaining faster-than-wired speeds," noted Tony Chen, Director of ASUS Notebook Business. "By incorporating Gen3 into the A6T, ASUS has created a product that is ideal for home users wanting to access a variety of multimedia applications and content from anywhere in the home, and for business users needing high performance access to applications over a wireless network, either in the home, office or on the road. Airgo's Gen3 True MIMO technology delivers speed, reliability and range that not only surpasses anything else on the market, but looks to do so for some time to come."
Airgo's True MIMO technology has been adopted as the core of the new IEEE 802.11n MIMO interoperability standard. Products featuring Airgo True MIMO Gen3 are fully 802.11a/b/g compatible, and can be used with any other Wi-Fi certified 802.11 device on a network. Real-world tests show that Airgo's third generation True MIMO provides actual TCP/IP throughput of more than 120Mbps with uncompressed traffic, surpassing the performance of wired 100BaseT Ethernet. In addition, Airgo's True MIMO Gen3 chipset features a single chip with two complete radios fully integrated to achieve further aggressive board-level integration, which has resulted in a 15% reduction in the overall Bill of Material (BOM) cost and a 20% reduction in power consumption.
ASUS' True MIMO wireless product line also consists of a router product and small adapter card for laptops. All of the ASUS True MIMO products deliver faster-than-wired performance, are Wi-Fi certified and can be used with any other 802.11b/g device on a network.
