Skype Mobile for Apple OS X Users
On Thursday, April 06, 2006, I posted an article on EQO Brings Skype Mobile VoIP, IM to Popular Handsets.
In response to high customer demand, EQO Communications, a leading developer of presence-enabled calling and instant messaging solutions and services, today announced immediate availability of EQO Mobile for Skype to users of the Apple OS X operating system. With this announcement, users of Apple's Macintosh systems are now able to extend Skype VoIP calling and messaging to their mobile phones.
"The Apple user community have proven themselves to be a vibrant group who are always on the cutting edge of communications technology," commented Ian Andrew Bell, EQO Vice President of Marketing & Alliances. "We recognize that providing our service to these market leaders is key to getting the word out that, with EQO, practically anyone can extend their Skype experience to their mobile telephones."
EQO Mobile for Skype consists of EQO Mobile Internet Phone Service for Skype, launched at the 2006 DEMO technology conference in Phoenix, AZ and EQO Mobile Instant Messaging for Skype, introduced at Spring VON 2006 in San Jose, CA.
EQO Mobile lets users make and receive Skype calls, exchange Instant Messages, and view presence information about their buddies over the Skype network from more than 45 different phone handset models from vendors including Nokia, Motorola, Palm, and Sony-Ericsson. Most recently, EQO announced support for Palm TREO 650 and Motorola ROKR, SLVR, and RAZR handsets.
Using a combination of a phone-resident J2ME client and a presence-enabled Voice-over-IP (VoIP) signaling network, the EQO Mobile Internet Phone Service is capable of bridging online identity, VoIP calling, and Instant Messaging services to more than 200 million J2ME-capable mobile phone handsets already in use worldwide. With more than 74 million registered users, Skype is the dominant player in Internet calling and Instant Messaging communications services worldwide.
EQO Mobile is available for free to consumers as a Beta product via the EQO (pronounced "echo") web site at www.eqo.com
