The Cat is NOT Out of the Hat....

.... it's more like the dog dug a hole under the fence.

You have to give credit to those that find it first and from what I can see, MSMobiles found this neat little tidbit from a place called PPC-Welt before anyone else.  Click on the link if you want to see more pictures.

Frankly, initial information does not impress me too much but maybe by the time it arrives in the USA they will have a more impressive list of specs.

MSMobiles provided the following information about HTC Artemis:

  • processor speed: 201 MHz - TI OMAP (too slow for voice calls over Skype)
  • display: 240x320 pixels and only 65536 colors
  • built-in GPS (main feature of this phone)
  • OS: Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC phone edition
  • model number: ARTE10000
  • cellular: GSM/GPRS, no UMTS/HSDPA, possibly: EDGE
  • innovative input controls: wheel + joystick
  • QuickGPS ( quick GPS ) preinstalled so that users can achieve GPS fix much faster thanks to satellite data downloaded over Internet
  • Bluetooth, infra-red, USB

I agree, 201 MHz is just too slow. You would think that any HTC PPC device would have the minimum 400 MHz necessary for Skype.
I would say that out of the box GPS will be pretty much a standard feature and a good selling point down the road for carriers. Tom Tom already has their software only version and recently came out with the Navigator 6 bundle for the Palm Treo.

Sometimes I think vendors put out devices just to put them out and see what the "masses" think. My guess is that this device will have a short life.
