... You Can DO IT in 10 Months! This is NOT Rocket Science, it's a music player with a lot of very cool features ... and more will be coming.
So now we have just 10 days to go before the release and my guess is that it is going to be BIG. Why? For a variety of reasons but I believe that Microsoft is jumping in at the right time with the right changes that are attractive to a HUGE segment of the folks who listen to "tunes" on daily basis.
Recent reports have indicated that although Apple has a strong share of the market segment, 59% of those that have an iPod will "jump ship" to get a Zune. That's HUGE!
Robert Scoble said: "iPod has hundreds of accessories and has car manufacturers who make their cars “iPod compatible.” Zune won’t be able to match that out of the gate". Robert you are correct but check out what IS available and wait and see how fast it grows....it will be an incredible flurry of accessories right after the launch starts. My guess is that folks will get a Zune for the holidays and start getting all those nice new accessories right after the new year starts.
Roberts biggest point in his blog entry was:
And, the Zune has a better software updater. I’m already hearing that within a few days of release in mid-November that there will already be some new features released.
That’s something Apple should worry about. If Microsoft can upgrade all of its Zune players easily with new features and games and such, then they can build experiences that the iPod can’t easily get (and if third-party developers can play there, watch out. Remember 1989? I thought the Macintosh was superior to Windows. Which one ended up with more market share? The ones that the developers could extend the easiest.
Check out the ZUNE.NET site to see and read a little more about the ZUNE and some of the neat accessories that are already ready to roll out when folks start getting their NEW ZUNES ... all this in ONLY 10 Months.
